rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is one of my favorites from this series. That’s because it showed both the good and bad side of society with its often
mixed motives and reasons. I felt sorry when I discovered who the murderer was because I liked the character.

Enjoying Mysteries By Lisa Scottoline

I have discovered a new author and series of mysteries. I have fallen in love with the writing style of Lisa Scottoline. The link you see here will take you to her Meet The Writers page from Barnes and Noble. You can also check out her official web site to learn more about her. Her first book, Everywhere That Mary Went, is excellent. It’s a suspenseful legal thriller set in Philadelphia within the culture of a prestigious law firm and Mary’s work class Italian family’s home. The following books get even better as she becomes more comfortable with writing and with her characters. I’m currently reading Killer Smile, also featuring Mary from the first book in the series. It’s about her investigation into the fate of a man who was detained during World War II in an internment camp. The history and detail are woven into the story, and this is an excellent book for anyone who enjoys History Channel documentaries and shows.

Devil’s Corner is a fast-paced thriller that grabs and holds you from the first page. I dare you to put it down till you’re done with it. It’s about a female prosecutor who thinks she’s looking into a minor case that turns out to plunge her into something much larger and dangerous. She is the only living witness to the shooting of a DEA agent and has to travel into the underbelly of the city to find out who and why. My description doesn’t do it justice because I sound like a commercial.

All three of these books are available at Audible if you’d prefer an audio download version. For anyone who is blind and lives in the U.S., most of the Scottoline books are available from NLS on cassette as well. In fact, NLS offers 15 titles.

If you know of an author with a similar writing style or know of an awesome mystery I should check out, please post a comment here. I’d love to hear from you.
