Yesterday’s Son

I spent much of my weekend enjoying a book from the original Star Trek series called Yesterday’s Son. Were I to rank the Trek books, this one would be somewhere in the top 10. Not only is it well-written and full of action, it is also very realistic in its characters and their daily lives. It is faithful to both the fictional characters and how they were portrayed by the actors from the TV series. In fact, you can even buy a cassette version with Leonard Nimoy reading it. I’m tempted to by it after Christmas just to hear him read it. The themes in this book are universal… things that touch the lives of almost every person who has lived. In that way, it’s story is deep and healing, even comforting. Yet it is still very much an adventure with humor and heroism in bountiful supply. This is one you can read with your heart, not just your head. I’m waiting somewhat patiently to receive the sequel in the mail. Both are available from NLS’ recorded books service for blind users in case that information is useful to you. I hope that you’ll take some time to read the book and that you’ll find your own reasons to cheer at its end.
