The Scanners Guild is owned and operated by Monica Willyard. Monica is a freelance writer, a marketing director for a small company, and a retired assistive technology trainer. She’s a proud and involved mom with a teenage daughter. Monica is an active and dedicated volunteer for Bookshare.org, a nonprofit company that makes print books accessible for people with print reading disabilities such as blindness, dyslexia, or traumatic brain injury. It is her work with Bookshare and her love of books that prompted Monica to create this blog. Her goal is to help people find accessible books, learn to scan books for themselves, and to show them how to get the most from the Bookshare service.
She spends her evenings and weekends training new volunteers, teaching people to scan books, scanning books of her own from a never-ending pile on her desk, and searching for books from used book sales to fill Bookshare wish list requests. When there’s no work to do, you can find Monica on her front porch reading a mystery or in the kitchen with a new cookbook whipping up a new recipe.
Monica lives in Atlanta with her daughter and a noisy but loving extended family. Oh, and shelves and shelves of books.
